Super Fruit: strawberries in cups

Bogreen is a modern nursery, where high-grade fruit concepts are developed. The company – formerly called Jac. Van der Hoeven boomkwekerij – underwent a rigorous metamorphosis in 2012 when Sjors Boers, the former manager's son, took over the business. With this takeover, the name also changed, and the company moved to its current location in Wateringen. Boers asked Van der Windt for help in its search for suitable packaging solutions for his sophisticated fruit concepts.

"Why Van der Windt? I think it's the most well-known packaging wholesaler in Westland," Boers says. "When you think of packaging, you immediately think of Van der Windt. And after the initial contact, it was an immediate hit. Van der Windt offers everything we're looking for in terms of packaging."

Printed cups
Hans van der Knaap, Horti sales representative at Van der Windt, says: "Bogreen was looking for a specific cup for new retail concept Super Fruit. The size of the standard cup was too small, and we started looking for the right size. We ended up supplying a strawberry cup and a grape cup."

Boers explains: "We grow our fruit varieties in other pots, and we transfer the plants to the cups right before they're going to the retailer. The cups are printed. We supply to companies including hardware stores, supermarkets and garden centres. BOGREEN created the design. Van der Windt made a few adjustments to make the files ready to print."

Working together on the right solution
"Van der Windt provided excellent guidance for the entire process. From finding the right size cup to a beautiful end result. Getting the size right was a bit of a puzzle. The cup had to fit into the existing barrels and boxes. Ultimately, we succeeded in finding the right solution together."

Protective cardboard
"At the moment we're working on developing a new product for another fruit concept, Taste of Nature. We supply small fruit trees in ceramic bowls, for instance for on the balcony or the terrace. Of course it's important that the ceramic bowls won't get damaged during storage and shipping. The solution is a sort of protective cardboard layout. A special interior with compartments for on the Danish shelf. The fact that I'm once again in talks with Van der Windt about this says enough, I think. I am very happy about the partnership."
