Jacqueline Monden, De Kruidenaer:

"Demand for Dutch herbs better after Easter than before"

An increasing amount of Dutch herbs is becoming available at De Kruidenaer in Etten-Leur. "They're all greenhouse products. Supply is still limited, but is increasing every week. We're now offering basil, lovage, dill, mint, rocket, oregano, sage and Thai basil," says Jacqueline Monden. "We'll also start with chives from the open field, and we're offering the first tarragon this week."

In addition to the Dutch herbs, quite a bit of imported produce from Kenya, Spain and Israel is available. "But we have buyers who want to start with Dutch produce as soon as possible," Jacqueline says. "The season is going as usual. One noticeable thing this year was that demand was better in the week after Easter than the week before, probably because of the weather. When the spring sun breaks through, demand for herbs like mint and basil goes up."
