US (CA): Transition in cabbage supplies

With supplies of cabbages transitioning from one region to another in California, a gap in supplies has sprung up.

“Supplies are light right now because of a transition from the Imperial Valley to Salinas,” said Chris Amaral of Amaral Ranches. Despite those light supplies, Amaral said he's seen the market down recently, with sluggish demand.

While prices have been low, the market seemed to improve at the end of last week. On April 10, prices for a 50-pound carton of round green cabbage were between $10.25 and $11.95 out of the Central Coast, and prices for a carton of red cabbage were between $18.25 and $20.45. Out of Oxnard, prices for a carton of green cabbage were between $10.75 and $11.75, and prices for a carton of red cabbage were between $12.75 and $14.95. Demand in both areas was reported as good to fairly good.
