Mexico: Exports from Jalisco are expected to grow by 7% in 2015

Jalisco’s export sector forecasts it will grow by 7% in 2015 because of factors, such as the diversification of exportable products, the opening of new international markets, and the dollar.

"The dollar has benefited us; even though it has dropped a little, it still remains high and it will benefit most of the sector," said the president of the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade in the West (Comce), Miguel Angel Landeros.

In 2014, he stated, our expectation was to grow 5% and we grew 6%.

Even though he acknowledged that the raw materials were more expensive because of the value of the dollar, the leader stated in an interview that the import substitution program had been strengthened and that they had decreased in Jalisco but had increased at the national level.

New markets
According to Landeros, the growth in exports will be the result of the opening of new countries for products made in Jalisco; including China, India, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Germany.

He also stressed that the traditional export sectors were maintaining their trend and that there were new products conquering international markets.

"There are products that are emerging and that are being sent to new markets. We are talking about the berries, pork meat, avocado oil, and avocado fruits, which we are about to export to the United States," he said.

He also stated that eight municipalities of Jalisco had been already certified, and that they would begin exporting their avocado production to the United States by October of this year, at the latest.
