Strawberry demand Germany increasing slowly

In Germany the strawberry season starts in the middle of June. Due to better weather conditions the demand on the German market is growing steadily. The strawberry situation on the different German wholesale markets looks different. According to the weekly market report of the German Federal Ministry of agriculture and food (KW 12 / 15) the demand for strawberries is growing little by little. But the supply from the current strawberry export countries is not covering the demand completely.

Varying volumes and prices
On Frankfurt wholesale market the interest for Spanish strawberries was quite positive. Also, the supply of strawberries from the Netherlands was good and achieved a good price on the wholesale. On Hamburg wholesale the quality of the traded strawberries from Spain was not satisfactory for the traders. Due to the bad quality of Spanish varieties, the demand for Italian, Moroccan and Dutch berries was also quite low. In Cologne the situation was quite different. The strawberry quality was good but the supply was quite low. According to this, the traders could sell their berries for a high price.

Good weather leads to higher prices
In Spite of good weather conditions, the demand for strawberries from Spain or Italy on the Munich wholesale market was quite low. High prices prevented a quick sale. On Berlin wholesale the supply of Spanish strawberries was increasing steadily. The high demand and good weather led to steadily 0,70 € to 0,80 € per 250 Gram shell. Due to smaller volumes, the prices for strawberries from the Netherlands or Italy was even higher.
