Fruit giveaway to boost local business

Fruit and vegetable retailer Harris Farm has made its stand for local businesses by giving away bags of fresh fruit, and received a good response according to those in the store. “It went well. I don’t know how many bags went overall, but it was at least four boxes worth,” Said the Edgecliff store supervisor on duty during the half hour giveaway on Friday, Juliette Anderson. “Customers were coming in and saying ‘oh what’s this’ and taking the bags with them. They didn’t eat them straight away but maybe tomorrow we’ll get some feedback.”

The independent fruit and vegetable retailer has decided to give customers free samples in the form of fruit bags containing pieces of apple and orange, in an attempt to attract people to the store, and show off its produce.

Harris Farm ran the promotion at its Edgecliff store on Friday, for half an hour between 12pm and 12:30pm. The store is located at 25 New South Head Road, Edgecliff.

The promotion was the idea of owner Franco Lagudi’s son. “The little guys are doing it tough and we need to show our support,” he told The Wentworth Courier. “I’m trying to encourage everyone to buy local.”

The Edgecliff giveaway was a trial run for the small independent grocery chain, and it will assess the results of the day before deciding whether to stage more giveaways in its other locations.
