Chile: Rains affect table grapes

The national table grape production (from Copiapo to O'Higgins) is only being compromised by the rains in some areas of the country, as they are only affecting between 35% and 40% of the Red Globe and the Crimson Seedless crops that haven’t been harvested.

It’s worth noting that, according to estimates made earlier this week, there are nearly 1.5 million boxes of the Red Globe variety and 400,000 boxes of Crimson Seedless grapes in refrigerators, which are ready to be exported. Additionally, the packing of the table grapes from the Third and Fourth regions is nearly completed.

Based on the above, estimates are that the rainfall is affecting nearly 4 million boxes of Red Globe and 2.5 million boxes of Crimson Seedless. Thus, producers will treat the vines to prevent them from decaying.

ASOEX stated it was going to help the producers in the affected areas, in coordination with the trade associations representing producers and exporters of fruits of the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo.

The Fruit Exporters Association of Chile regretted the situation the country was experiencing, particularly in relation to loss of life.
