Peru: Camposol will export 20% fewer avocados this season

According to Jose Antonio Gomez Bazan, Camposol's executive director, this season, Camposol expects to export 25,200 tons of Hass avocado (1,200 containers of 21 tons each), 20% less than the 31,500 tons (1,500 containers) it shipped in the previous season.

This reduction, he said, was the result of the alternation phenomenon, as this year production would be lower.

Camposol plans to export Hass avocados to America, Europe, South America and Asia during this campaign, which begins in April and ends in September. "We estimate the proportion sent to the US and to Europe will be balanced."

One of the objectives of the agribusiness company is to find markets that are relatively more stable than last year, when prices fluctuated.

Peruvian Offer
According to Gomez Bazan, estimates are that Peru will export 190,000 tons of Hass avocados this campaign, i.e. nearly 20% more than in 2014.

In that sense, he said, the Chilean and Chinese markets will be important for the Peruvian avocado industry. "We could send 400 containers to Chile so as not to hit the market, while we could send 200 containers to China. Japan isn't open yet, but we will also send avocados to that destination once it is officially open."
