Thuringia specialized mushroom cultivation

In the past year, mushrooms were grown on an acreage of nearly 6,000 m² in the German state of Thuringia, figures from the states Statistics Bureau show. Only companies were included in the figures that had a production acreage of 1,000 m² minimum, German website Fruchthandel.de reports.

Because the production acreage was used multiple times, around 1,800 tonnes of mushrooms were grown on a total 77,000 m² in 2014. Only common mushrooms were produced. Compared to 2013, the production acreage was expanded by 9,000 m², or 13%.
