Zespri: Renewed support for rural leadership developed

Zespri has signed a new partnership agreement with the Kellogg Rural Leadership Development Programme, extending its support for developing future industry leaders for a further three years.

The Kellogg Rural Leadership Development Programme has been run by Lincoln University for over 30 years but recently has begun a collaboration with the New Zealand Nuffield Scholarship Trust.

The Kellogg programme has recently undertaken some exciting changes including a shortened six-month programme and two intakes a year from NZ’s primary sector. This has created opportunities for 40 to 45 participants each year to undertake leadership development contextualised to rural and primary industry strategic and leadership issues.

As a partner, Zespri will provide financial support for the Programme and take part in presentations and student selections.

Zespri will offer a place on the course each year to a candidate from the kiwifruit industry as part of its partnership with the Kellogg programme. Lorry Leydon is the Zespri scholarship recipient for 2015 and he says he is really pleased to have been accepted.

Zespri also has two employees completing the programme, along with others from the horticulture sector.
