Better prospects Pakistani mangoes

According to Danish Maqbool of Khalid Maqbool of Pakistan, "The situation for Pakistani mangoes is expected to improve compared to the past two years." The company produces two mango varieties for export, the Sindhri and the Chonsa.

The quality will be much better than last season, when we had issues with the crop and many problems with our exports to the European Union. The weather this year is more favourable and the situation should be better for all Pakistani exporters,” affirms Danish.

He explains that, last year, Europe’s ban on Indian mangoes collaterally put a lot of pressure on Pakistani exporters who only achieved 20% of their usual business. And this year, the company is receiving greater support from the government such as achieving the different certifications required.

Khalid Maqbool has an export capacity of around 10 tonnes per week, is able to ship from three cities: Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. “Our main destination is Europe, mostly Germany and the UK, and a small percentage goes to the Middle East. We also have negotiations underway to enter Australia and we aim to increase our shipment volumes to Canada,” concludes Mr Maqbool.
