Cocaine found in banana boxes

Employees of a fruit and vegetable market in Völklingen (Saarland) found 300 kilos of cocaine hidden in banana boxes. The drugs were packed in green plastic foil between the unripe bananas from South America. The cocaine has overall a market value of 20 million Euro.

Employees of the market discovered the cocaine by accident when they were unpacking the banana boxes. The bananas came from the Netherlands and most likely arrived at the Port of Rotterdam. The bananas with the hidden drugs were originally imported from South America. A report from "BILD-Zeitung" confirmed that the cocaine was immediately secured by the police.

The amount of cocaine is the largest amount discovered so far in the Saarland. Investigators of the police are now examining if the amount was a so-called "misdelivery". The police refrained from giving additional details and hadn't released the information before now in connection with the ongoing investigation.
