Germany: asparagus probably significantly more expensive due to minimum wage

The introduction of minimum wages in Germany will likely inflate asparagus prices this spring, German website Topagrar.com reports. Last week, the Zentralverband Gartenbau (ZVG) reported, on behalf of the 'Netzwerk Deutscher Spargelverbände', that the noble vegetable would cost 10% more this harvest season than in 2014.

The additional documentation duties as a consequence of the minimum wage contribute to this, causing increased bureaucracy and thus also wage costs for producers. Numerous companies are now fearing the future, with costs and revenues becoming ever less balanced.
