Italy: Venice Green Terminal

After a €6.5 million investment in infrastructures and services, the Venice port is finally open to the import-export of fresh produce.
The credit goes to the Venice Green Terminal (Vgt), the first logistic platform for the storing (even at controlled temperature), distribution, transport and handling of fresh produce in the city's port.

With the maxi refrigerated room (Vgt2) fully operational, the structure has in fact tripled its capacity. We are talking about 10 thousand square metres that can store 7 thousand pallets in 6 refrigerated units operating at ten different temperatures between -2 and +13°C with different levels of humidity. The picking unit has a capacity of 5 thousand pallets. The refrigerated units enable to carry out all loading/unloading and handling operations in a controlled temperature environment, without exposing the produce to sudden temperature changes and respecting the cold chain.

The logistic hub is also complete with weighing stations to verify the single pallets and for inbound and outbound vehicles and 9 loading/unloading bays. All this makes possible the processing of 600 pallets per hour. In addition, a complete traceability system that uses a sophisticated ID, Ref code and bar code system enables the constant monitoring of storing conditions as well as quick and precise handling.

"VGT has a strong team of professionals with specific skills in every single sector with twenty-years experience in the management of fresh products. Our services include international shipping, groupage, door to door, import, export and transit; sea container transports and renting of ships, special vehicles and all kinds of equipment, refrigerated, conventional and container road transports, direct and indirect customs operations, fresh and dry produce handling, surveys and inspections. All operations are carried out at the terminal, so clients can save on extra expenses."

Venice Green Terminal has all the food (Ag/Haccp68/12 Rina), health (Ce-It-U7H2R USSL 12) and quality certification necessary to guarantee the maximum international standards (Iso 9001:2008 28379/12 Rina and Iso 22000:2005 Ag/Sgsa-14-54). Last but not least, it holds a strategic position at the crossing of three European corridors, 10 minutes away from the motorway (Milan-Venice, Venice-Trieste, Brennero) and the Marco Polo international airport. It also has DDP bonded warehouses that can manage any customs status.

The strategic position of the Venice Green Terminal

Venice Green Terminal has all the right characteristics to be a leading infrastructure in the domestic and international produce world.
