"People are tired of old produce that didn't make them money"

"Moroccan Nicolas are selling well"

The potato market has been looking forward to the arrival of new imported potatoes, such as the Moroccan Nicolas. Last week, the first ones arrived at VerDi Import again. "People were literally tired of selling old potatoes that made them absolutely nothing. So both at home and abroad, they're selling exceptionally well. For instance, Poland is traditionally a big buyer," says Geert Verweij.

At VerDi Import, in addition to the fruit import, they've never stopped importing potatoes. Geert is a potato trader of the fourth generation. "We started out at a good price level, and are expecting a much more constant price than last year. The season started a bit later, and the potatoes are looking good. Egypt is a big competitor in Poland, but doesn't have the quality supplied by Morocco. In the other countries, the harvest is smaller. The harvest is somewhat less in Morocco too, because enthusiasm has decreased a bit after last year's low prices. A slower growth has also resulted in reduced supplies."

Every week, Moroccan Nicolas are supplied to VerDi Import. Traditionally, the season ends around King's Day.
