France, Italy and Spain to analyse garlic campaign

Producers from Italy, France and Spain will discuss the prospects for the garlic campaign and the sector's situation at the next meeting of the Contact Group. Next to the campaign analysis, solutions will be sought to tackle the difficulties in the access to third country markets and in the control of garlic imports.

The meeting of the French-Spanish-Italian garlic group will take place on 21 April in Perpignan, France.

The tomato, strawberry and stonefruit groups have already held meetings in the context of the Joint Committee. In the latter, participants of all three countries have agreed to ask the European Commission for Regulation 1031/2014 (on exceptional measures for fruit and vegetable producers affected by the Russian veto) to be amended to include a specific quota for summer fruits, especially peaches and nectarines. A request will also be issued for the period of application of exceptional measures to be extended up until the end of the trade veto (August 2015).

The French-Spanish-Italian Joint Committee is an important forum created to improve relations between professionals in the European fruit and vegetable sector, to promote joint actions and to make proposals to improve agricultural and trade policies.
