After six years of demanding negotiations, China and Japan decided to open their markets to Peruvian Hass avocado, said the Ministry of Agriculture.
The head of the sector, Juan Manuel Benites, said that although the countries had already taken the political decision to lift sanitary barriers imposed on the Peruvian product, shipments to these markets would only begin in the second quarter of this year.
"We will sign the health protocol allowing exports of Peruvian Hass avocado to China in April," he said.
He also noted that they could start shipments to Japan at the end of May, after completing some formalities.
