Thüringen

Tomato crops dominate greenhouse cultivation

In 2014 12,000 tons of vegetables were harvested from greenhouses in the German state of Thüringen, which is almost the same as the 2013 total (-300 tons). The greenhouses take up 37 acres of land, which is two percent (+0.7 acres) higher than in 2013, reports the German website Proplanta.de.

According to the state's Bureau of Statistics, in 2014 the state grew 10,200 tons of tomatoes on 27 of the 37 total acres (74%). That was 345 tons (3%) less than in 2013. Cucumbers were grown on only one acre, while in 2013 they were grown on two acres.
