"In the past five years, the average broad bean production was of around 23,000 tons on almost 30,000 hectares. The crops are located mainly in the north of the country, and in Jendouba, Nabeul, Siliana, Kef, Beja, Bizerte and Manouba in particular," explains Agri Didon Tunisia.

The main varieties are Luz de Otono and Mamdouh, which are harvested and sold between January and late May.

"In the past three years, Tunisia exported 1,100 tons on average especially towards Libya, France and Italy. Other countries like Germany and the Arab peninsula are also starting to purchase Tunisian broad beans."

Agri Didon Tunisia broad beans are packaged in plastic or cardboard crates.

As regards the Libyan situation, company managers say that "this year trade slowed down and blocked two weeks ago. Only small volumes reach the country."
