By the end of week 8

Peru: Mango exports fall by nearly 35%

According to Juan Carlos Rivera, CEO of the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (EMPA), Peru exported 78,407 tons (3,409 containers of 23 tons each) between the start of this mango campaign (late November) and the end of week eight (22 February), i.e. 34,5% less than the 119,600 tons (5,200 containers) shipped in the same period of the previous season (2013/2014).

So far this campaign, shipments to Europe have amounted to 41,400 tons (1,800 containers), exports to the United States 30,590 tons (1,330 containers), Canada 3,680 tons (160 containers), among others countries, such as Japan, Chile, etc.

Rivera also said that the volume sent was consistent with the forecast made by EMPA, which had estimated mango exports by the end of week 8 would amount to 3,400 containers (9 less than in reality). According to their estimate this season's total shipments would amount to nearly 95,000 tons, a number they have ratified and that could be met.

Juan Carlos Rivera said this season's export peak was over and had taken place in weeks 3 and 4. In that time span the country exported 500 containers each week, whereas they only exported 300 containers in week 8.

To conclude, he stated that there would be large shipments of mango until the end of week 14, even though Piura and Lambayeque's strong campaign was over, as the supply from Ancash continued to sustain exports.
