Bananas ripened in Brittany

Bananas are France's second most consumed fruit, after apples. They are green when they arrive in France and are ripened by La Compagnie Fruitière, North of Rennes. Most of the company’s bananas come from Cameroon, the Ivory Coast and Ghana… a long journey that means the bananas need 4 to 6 days of ripening. 

Alongside avocados, bananas are the only fruit with a controllable process, which is important in ensuring the fruit is neither too green not too ripe. The temperature of the banana is increased, it is heated, gas is injected, the air circulates for 24 hours and is then ventilated….
