Louisiana sweet potato prices remain steady

Louisiana sweet potatoes are experiencing an above average demand for this time of year. Current prices are $19 to $20 FOB which remains steady from prices earlier this season. “We expect to have a good Easter crop,” explains René Simon, the director of the Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission.

Louisiana also expects to see a slight increase in acreage, which is attributed to the increase in demand for fresh and processed sweet potatoes. “Volume has also increased due to fresh market exports,” declares Simon, “French Fried Sweet Potatoes are also experiencing a steady increase in demands,”

Although sweet potatoes grown in Louisiana are only exported to Canada, the overall market for United States exports of sweet potatoes continues to increase dramatically with the newest markets in Europe. “We continue to see an increased interest in our export markets as well as our value added products,” states Simon.
