Mexico: Refrigerated chambers for berry exports to China

"Mexico's advantage is that we produce berries nine months a year; we are one of the few countries in the world that can achieve this. Additionally, the recent opening of the Chinese market is allowing us to further diversify our destinations," points out Alfonso Contreras, of Andrea Fruit Company.

Luis Kammel Kiamy Becerra and Alfonso Contreras, of ANDREA Fruit Company, high quality berries, during Fruit Logistica.

Andrea Fruit Company has over 30 years' experience in production and marketing and currently has a network of producers with over 500 hectares of organic and conventional berries.

The company is currently expanding, and in March 2015, Andrea Fruit Company will open its new refrigerated chambers, with cooling capacity for 1,900 tonnes.

"We believe we are the perfect choice to consolidate the supply of producers in the western part of the country. Our prime location will give them a competitive advantage, since it is next to the food market of Guadalajara and just thirty minutes from the airport," explains Alfonso.

"We will count on the participation of all links in Mexico's export chain, such as the Secretariat of Economy, SAGARPA, airlines and forwarders; we will be the first in Mexico to have everyone involved in export in the same building, making it easier for small and medium producers to have direct access to exporting."

Alfonso stated that, in March, these chambers are expected to be certified for China, providing the chance for small and medium producers to enter this market, where berry exports started in January 2015.

"This is the result of agreements between the governments of Mexico and China, which mark the beginning of a new stage in the food trade relationship between both nations," concludes Alfonso.
