Uruguayan citrus sparks great interest at Fruit Logistica

"This is the seventh year in a row that Uruguay takes part in the fair. When we started participating in Fruit Logistica, we only came with companies devoted to blueberries and some citrus, but today all major export companies are represented, covering 95% of the fruit that the country exports. We have also grown in size and improved our services," said Marta Bentancur Servetti, of UPEFRUY.

Uruguayan fruit exports amount to ninety million dollars annually and Marta said that virtually all clients are met at Fruit Logistica.

"It was a success; we had many visitors interested in Uruguay and entrepreneurs made good use of our space to attract clients. We will surely be back next year, as this is a platform that really helps us come in contact with businesses around the world," stressed Marta.

Last year, Uruguayan citrus entered the U.S. market, sparking great interest amongst American entrepreneurs, who approached the stand and requested interviews with representatives of Uruguayan citrus companies.

"There are good opportunities for growth in that market, which will help compensate for the problems we are facing in Russia and the high tariffs for our mandarins in the European market," points out Marta.

Uruguay Natural is the country brand for Uruguayan fruit; a label based on the principles of quality, traceability, safety and sustainability. "Uruguay Natural is a commitment to quality, and not quantity," says Marta, adding: "Uruguay is not only competitive, but we have developed an image that has given prestige to our brand and we are establishing good, long-term relations. We try to differentiate ourselves through sustainable and responsible production and we aim to make even further progress on the issue of fruit waste, as this will give us more competitiveness in the German market, which is very demanding in this respect."
