Italy: Aubergine prices dropping despite high quality

Giuseppe Morena (in the photo) from Euroverde, explained that the price of Italian aubergines has been €0.30 lower than the Spanish produce for a few days, despite the latter being of lower quality.

"The problem, as always, is that our quality is better, but we cannot achieve good prices. Anyway at least they are higher than last year because there is less produce available."

"Humidity caused by rain led to the development of mould. As soon as supply stabilises tough, prices will continue dropping."

"Prices started to increase in December, when the wind in Sicily caused flower drops, so we can say they only increase when there is less produce available. But despite this, sales are slow."
