Chicory festival North France

The chicory festival has been celebrated for the last 11 years, and it is still a success! Between 3-4,000 people from all over the region are expected to take part in the festival. The idea came about because “we had chicory producers in our commune, we thought we should honour them”. Frank Frémaux, President of the organising associates explains that the event is successful because “it is a good occasion for an outing at a time when there is not much in the sector. And, it’s sheltered. Also, there is the fact that people can enjoy tasting the chicory, and meeting professionals”.
The key to the success is the desire to cook, being close to producers, restaurant owners and the possibility of leaving with lots of products and ideas. “For a few years now we have felt that people are returning to cooking. There are more and more discussions with producers. People want to know how it is produced, they want recipes explained to them…”

This weekend, like always, there will be 15 or so cooking professionals and 15 or so growers. There will be chicory as well as other products.

The festival will take place in Haisnes-lez-La Bassée, between Lens and La Bassée, entrance is free. No need to book for Sunday lunch, which will be chicory based.
