German organic branch wants support from EU

The German organic branch is asking for more political support - particularly from the EU, reports the German website Proplanta.de. "It is important that the existing opportunities can become a reality," said Felix Prinz zu Lowenstein, President of the 'Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft' (Federation of the Organic Food Industry), during last Tuesday's 'media day' for the organic trade fair 'Biofach' in Nuremberg, Germany.

Currently, the organic sector is in uproar mainly due to the impending revision of the European organic farming regulations. "It is a really serious problem," said zu Lowenstein. If the revision is realized in the form currently planned by the European Commission, this would cause a "serious obstacle to growth" according to zu Lowenstein.
