"Serving a wider audience with more flavours"

POM Wonderful updates packaging and adds flavour

Wonderful Brands introduced its three brands Wonderful Pistachios, Wonderful Almonds and POM Wonderful at Fruit Logistica 2014. This year, the company introduced several innovations. Tom Hazelof, sales director for Europe, says that the design of the POM Wonderful packaging has changed. "The bottles aren't completely transparent anymore, but the lower half has a different colour, causing the fruit to stand out more. That way it's more obvious what the bottle contains."

Pomegranate-orange
Last year, POM Wonderful introduced the new pomegranate-apple flavour, and this year pomegranate-orange. By itself, the taste of pomegranate can be perceived as too strong by some people and children, and they're looking for an alternative. We now offer that possibility. We can serve a wider audience with more flavours. We also focus on more consumption moments now, such as breakfast. Morning is a perfect moment for some healthy juice." With POM Wonderful, the company focuses on retailers in various European countries.

Non-roasted pistachios
In addition to POM Wonderful, the company also sells almonds and pistachios. "New with pistachios is that we also offer a non-roasted variety now. The product comes pure off the tree and is actually a 'raw' pistachio. Of course we make sure it's sold safe to eat, through flash pasteurization (brief heating at a high temperature). Because the pistachios aren't roasted, the flavour is softer and more natural, and it really has a full flavour. We opted to keep the shell around the pistachio, so the product won't dry out quickly, won't discolour, is protected and can be kept longer." The packaging of the non-roasted pistachios is more transparent than for the roasted ones. "That way, the products can be seen better, and the difference is also more noticeable," Tom explains. "The product is just ready, and we are now introducing it to the first customers."
