Tony Orru makes fantastical creations out of fruit and vegetables

Tony Orru (50) from Sardinia, puts unusual decorations on the tables as a waiter at 'Gasthaus Ratsstube' in the German Hohentengen: a pineapple has been transformed into an owl, a lemon and a beetroot into a cockerel and he has made little birds out of melon and papaya. He has been doing this for 35 years, reports the German newspaper 'Südkurier' on its website.

"I practised a lot and got better and better." His tool is a simple vegetable knife. "It's a lot of work but I really like it," he beams. He has often decorated buffets for parties or made things for celebrations needing special decorations. He has also given courses in Italy. To kitchen hands and waiters but also to interested housewives. He would like to do something like that in Germany too. "People have to try it. It's not difficult. The main thing you need is an imagination," according to Orru.
