Germany: amount of residual pesticides has further declined

The consistent quality assurance of fruit and vegetables is showing results: 99% of the fruit and vegetable samples that were recently examined in Germany have a lower level of pesticide residue than the legal maximum, reports the German website Gabot.de. The 'QS Fachgesellschaft Obst-Gemüse-Kartoffeln GmbH' (QS) (Professional society for fruit-vegetables-and potatoes) and the 'Deutsche Fruchthandelsverband' (DFHV) (German Fruit Trade Association) came to this outcome through a joint monitoring program.

The research was summarized in the 2015 monitoring report. For this report QS and DFHV analysed 17,306 samples from 73 countries between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014. In 38.4% of all the samples tested no traces of pesticides were found. This means the positive trend of the last couple of years is continuing.
