Experience keys for Southern Hemisphere ag leader

Chile’s Viveros Requinoa (VR) having a worldwide impact makes it a perfect fit for connections generated through Associated International Group of Nurseries (AIGN®).

Under the director of longtime company Vice President, Juan Enrique Concha Ureta, VR is a major part of a Chilean platform for many fruit crops; supplying the leading countries of the northern hemisphere, often on a year round basis.

“To meet the demand of the markets in the north, it’s important to have the most advanced technology and the best varieties,” Concha says. “This is how Viveros Requinoa became a leader in the fruit industry here.”

“This now enables us to represent the most famous nurseries and plant breeders from the United States, Europe and other countries in the world. AIGN® provides the network making much of this possible.”

With Concha and his family in the Chilean fruit industry for over 100 years, (over 30 of those years in the nursery business) VR has become known for providing the nation’s growers great diversity in varieties.

“We take pride in growing high quality plants coming out of responsible and advanced technical activities,” Concha says. “The scope is large, including the production of stone fruit, apples, walnuts, almonds, cherries, pears and table grapes.”

An important part of the VR operation is that the nursery is only one, albeit a major, segment of the business. “We have the advantage of being vertically integrated.” Concha says. “In addition to the nursery, we are also fruit growers with a long tradition of being packers and exporters. This gives us a complete handle on the entire fruit business.”

Concha is also very proud of the history behind it all as he, with his father, Alfredo Concha Yrarrazabal, have planted around 3,000 acres and exported 2.5 million boxes of fruit annually. The fruit is managed in two central packing operations and cold storage installations.

“We can offer to breeders, fruit buyers and others in the fruit industry our vast experience along with a staff of professionals,” Concha says. “This includes an agronomic engineer, an economist, a civil engineer and a select group of technicians.”

He also owns, together with three partners, C&D International which is a fruit export company which ships to China under the Finest Fruit brand.
