Van Nature expands assortment with courgette flowers
These edible flowers are a delicacy that can be used in many different ways.
They can be stuffed with a mousse or coated in batter and deep-fried shortly.
The flowers have a beautiful yellow colour making them very decorative.
Courgette flowers are in bloom for only 4 to 5 hours, and they must be harvested in that short space of time because they open just the once. Grower Jan van Vliet, has to harvest the courgette flowers at the crack of dawn because they open very early. They are then immediately packed to make sure that they retain their quality and attractive appearance.
Both female and male courgette flowers (Courgette Fioretta) are available. The female flowers come with the young courgette fruit, which is absent from the male flowers. If left in their packaging and refrigerated, the courgette flowers can be kept for 4 to 6 days.
