New spinach varieties presented at Fruit Logistica

Pop Vriend Seeds, a Dutch international vegetable seed company with 60 years of experience, will participate at Fruit Logistica 2015 in Berlin. The family owned company is known worldwide for its successful varieties in Spinach, Swiss Chard, Bush Beans and Sweet Corn. Pop Vriend Seeds’ commercial and breeding staff are looking forward to welcoming dealers, packers and growers.

Pop Vriend Seeds recently developed a new wide range of Spinach varieties with the highest available downy mildew-resistance available to date. These Spinach varieties combine the downy mildew-resistance against the fysio’s Pfs 1-15 with an excellent plant-/leaf-type. They are continuously performing well in company trials during Open Days and around the world. These new Spinach varieties will be commercially available in autumn 2015. Please contact our breeder or representatives in our stand to get the latest update about those new varieties and our commercial available existing program of well-established varieties.

Swiss Chard is one of Pop Vriend Seeds’ youngest breeding programs. For the last two years, several F1 varieties, in both green and red veined leaves, have been launched commercially. The F1-varieties have a much better growth rate/vigor than the OP-material, which results in a more uniform and faster growth of Swiss Chard underneath less favorable and cooler conditions. Also under conditions with a (high) disease pressure the speed of growth/vigor could prevent infection and result in a better crop and quality.

A complete and well established program of Pop Vriend Seeds are their Bush Beans. The assortment is broad, especially for the European, African, Middle Eastern and US market. New developments are varieties with a broader rust tolerance and improved more compact plant types, which deliver a higher production and are more labor friendly.

The sweet corn assortment is also recognized by its flexible varieties and strong disease tolerance packages.

Along with our (breeding-) crop specialists, our business representatives for vegetable (fine) seeds will also be present at the Fruit Logistica. They can inform those interested about the entire program of open-pollinated and hybrid seeds for all vegetables, especially for usage in Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Pop Vriend Seeds invites dealers, packers and growers to their stand D-11 in Hal 1.2 to inform them about these and other developments.
