"A large fresh range is the only way to retain customers"

Vanhuyse takes over Bailly

Late December, Vanhuyse (part of Group A. de Witte) took over the Bailly wholesaler of the wholesale market in Evergem. This company sold a diverse range of fruit. Bailly's previous owners, Annie Bailly and Julien De Pourck, were very well-known on the market and had been active for years, but retired last year. The name Bailly will disappear as everything now comes under Vanhuyse.

Jan Vanhuyse says they are very happy about the takeover. "We now have their products as well. Bailly had a bit more exotics and specialities than we did. So our product range has been expanded again." At the moment, sales are quiet. "It does slow down a bit at the end of January. There aren't any outliers at the moment. We're selling a little bit of everything." He looks to the year with optimism. "It's not easy, but everyone knows that in wholesale. You can set yourself apart by offering fresh products and a very diverse range. It takes a lot of work to have a wide product range, but it's the only way to retain your customers."

Vanhuyse
The Vanhuyse wholesaler from Roeselare is part of group A. de Witte and is known for its bananas. Vanhuyse has its own banana ripening station, where about 6,500 18 kg boxes are ripened every week. The company has a diverse range of customers. "We supply to other wholesalers, market vendors, retailers, as well as to supermarkets and hospitality."
