Hessen and Saxon grow the most onions

Germany is a real cabbage country. A lot of regions primarily grow this product: white cabbage is the most grown vegetable in Baden-Württemberg, Saarland, Schleswig-Holstein and Thüringen, figures from the German Bureau of Statistics show.

In Bavaria, however, a lot of pickles are grown. In the western regions carrots are most grown and Hessen is a real onion state. In 2013, people in Hessen grew 54,637 tonnes of onions. Besides Hessen, the onion is the most grown vegetable in Saxon.
