Chip week returns for 24th annual celebration

Chip Week will return for its 24th annual celebration from 16 to 22 February 2015. Chip Week supports an important market for the GB crop, at what is traditionally a quiet period for the chipping trade, and it continues to go from strength to strength each year.

Not only does it generate a significant amount of national and regional press coverage, Chip Week also provides a platform for owners and operators of chips shops, pubs and restaurants to boost chip sales.

In fact a recent Potato Council survey of chip shops participating in Chip Week 2014 showed that for some operators, chips sales increased by as much as 40% during the week - and by as much as 30% in the following weeks, showing the potential importance of the campaign to growers.

For 2015, the high profile publicity campaign will include a search for the nation’s favourite chips in the Choice Chip Awards. Participating chip shops, pubs and restaurants will receive a chip-themed promotional kit to help them encourage their customers to join in the Chip Week celebrations.

Potato Council marketing manager, Kate Cox, said: “Chip Week provides growers, merchants, processors and packers with a fantastic opportunity to promote quality potatoes grown for the chip trade. The campaign has real potential to generate a significant sales uplift, which can be sustained after the Week has ended.

“We want to see as many chips shops, pubs and restaurants sign up to take part in Chip Week 2015, so if you supply chips to the chip shop trade or foodservice sector please encourage your customers to get involved and make the most of the opportunity to drive chip sales.”
