Italy: Euro devaluation compensates high priced kiwis

The 2014/15 Italian kiwi season started with steep prices. "Prices on the field were unreasonably high and I don't see why as Russia had already closed its borders, but it happened anyway," explains Massimo Ceradini, owner of Ceradini Group.

"The market was affected by it for quite some time, so the devaluation of the Euro was quite welcome, as it rebalanced the situation making our produce more appealing to those who buy in dollars."

In general, quotations were quite satisfactory. "We will still have to deal with Greece for a few months yet, as their prices are very competitive. Then we just need to manage our stocks properly."

As regards the Taiwan situation, the entrepreneur says that "luckily we did not have problems, but I hear there are companies that were considerably affected and are now considering legal proceedings, as what happened is not their fault."
