Chile: Table grape exports to date

The situation of the Chilean table grape exports is different in the III and IV Regions.

Chile exported 55,181 tons of table grapes in week 2 (source: SAG-ASOEX), 6.5% more than in the 2013/14 season. This growth is led by the III Region, which had 21.7% growth over the previous year because of the good weather conditions and an absence of contingencies. It's worth noting that this region's total volume exports are expected to increase by 5% this season and amount to 117,391 tons. To date, this region has exported 34% more than what was estimated, a number that is close to the average of the last three seasons.

On the other hand, the IV Region recorded exports of 20,106 tons, 11.6% less than in the 2013/14 season. This drop is the result of water shortages and expectations are that the region will export 12% less than in 2013/14 and 26% less than in 2012/13 (a season which achieved one of the highest volumes). The region's exports amount to 17% of the expected total, a number that is similar to the previous season.
