France: MedFEL opens doors to more fruit, veg professionals

For the very first time MedFEL 2015 is offering a comprehensive international product range. By incorporating pre-production professionals in addition to logistics and cold chain professionals who already attend MedFEL, this year the entire fruit and vegetable industry will be represented in Perpignan.

With the launch of MedFEL Tech, the numbers of visitors and exhibitors expected at MedFEL should naturally increase. The aim is to bring together some fifty or so exhibitors working in the technical field and around thirty specifically selected buyers. 5,315 visitors, including the F&V sector's most important buyers, attended the fair's 6th edition in Perpignan, along with 241 exhibitors from the Mediterranean basin.

Improving competitiveness via MedFEL Tech

"We already catered for downstream professionals; now we're incorporating those involved upstream of production, explains Chantal Passat, who chairs the MedFEL Organising Committee. MedFEL Tech is set to be a new tool for F&V sector companies, helping to boost their productivity. It should meet their requirement for innovation which is a key driver of the sector's competitiveness. This will help them maintain a strong position in export markets and meet the changing expectations of consumers."

In the view of Chantal Passat, MedFEL Tech will anchor MedFEL even more firmly in the Euro-Mediterranean. "By broadening our offering via MedFEL Tech, we remains on track with our goal – to enhance trade relations between the countries within the Union for the Mediterranean. Southern Mediterranean countries are requesting information sharing on the various areas of technical expertise."
