Migros imports Dutch 'Raclette Potatoes' unnecessarily

Currently Migros, the largest retail company in Switzerland, imports 'Raclette Potatoes' from the Netherlands, while there are plenty of Swiss potatoes in stock. These are now ending up in the feeding trough or at the biogas plant.

Ruedi Fischer, President of the Swiss potato growers (VSKP), is furious: "This is a disaster!" During his long career in the potato industry, he had never seen anything like this. He says, that the best quality Swiss potatoes are currently available. Nevertheless, Migros imports Dutch 'Gwen' potatoes and sells them as special 'Raclette Potatoes'.

According to Fischer, the Swiss 'Amandine' potato is completely on par with the Dutch one. He criticizes that tons of good Swiss potatoes are going to be destroyed for no reason. He is sure, that the costumers will not be happy about it either.

Migros media speaker Monika Weibel explains on request, that Swiss potato 'Amandine' is sold out. That is the reason why Migros started to import the Dutch potatoes. One objective of Migros is, to support the Swiss potato. They want to expand the production of the Swiss 'Gwen' potato gradually. Migros hopes to reach this objective in the potato season 2015/16.
