Opened by Chilean Ambassador Francisco Marambio

Chilean fruit promo in Spain

On Friday 12 December, Chile's Ambassador to Spain, Francisco Marambio, officially opened a new promotional campaign for Chilean fruit.

The event took place in Madrid with the participation of leaders and representatives of ProChile (the institution devoted to the international promotion of Chilean products), ASOEX (The Fruit Exporters Association of Chile), and the managers of the importer Frutas Sánchez and the retailer El Corte Inglés.

The Chilean Ambassador emphasised how Chilean fruit compliments that of Spain because of their different seasons, as well as the growing bilateral relations between both countries. In that respect, he stated that investments from Spanish companies in Chile are helping boost trade.

For his part, Christian Carvajal, Marketing Director for Europe of ASOEX, said: "Initiatives like this aim to support the distribution and marketing of Chilean fruit during the Spanish off-season. This year we have been able to promote some of the products available at this time, including peaches, cherries and blueberries."

Lorena Sepúlveda, director of ProChile's office in Spain, said that "this action has accompanied the start of the Chilean fruit season in Europe. Important efforts have been made to promote a wide range of fruits, even those that still have low penetration in the Spanish market, such as blueberries."

Cherries, blueberries, peaches and nectarines
These four Chilean fruit specialities are in the spotlight of the promotion, which is being organised in some fifty stores belonging to El Corte Inglés in various Spanish provinces.

The initiative includes tastings and offering informative leaflets to consumers, explaining the fruits' characteristics, practical advice on their storage, as well as handy recipes.
