Cut vegetables best stored in cling film

The German regional newspaper 'Westfälische Nachrichten' recently gave tips from top chefs on its website, about what people should look out for when storing leftover food for longer periods. This means that in the fridge, people are better to wrap cut vegetables in cling film rather than aluminium foil. When the foil comes into contact with certain foods, minuscule aluminium particles can detach and end up on the food.

Root vegetables such as carrots and celery don't really need any special packaging and can be stored in the fridge without cling film. Juicy vegetables such as tomatoes and cucumbers, however, must be wrapped in cling film. Courgette is best to be rolled in a damp piece of kitchen roll before being wrapped in cling film. A tomato, on the other hand, would turn mushy in this case.
