Italy: Fennel exports picking up

As Northern Europe grows vegetables for longer, the Italian export season starts later. "The market is rather calm. We have started working with the product from Apulia and I must say it is excellent," explains Marco Babbi, sales manager for Caligari & Babbi.

"Exports are starting now as Northern European countries manage to produce longer due to the warmer weather."

And Northern Europe is precisely the main destination for Caligari & Babbi - Switzerland, France, Netherlands and Denmark absorb 30% of the company's production in winter.

"Prices are more stable with respect to 2013, even though the Russian ban is driving prices down."
