Peru: Asparagus exports increased

This year, Peru exported 99.9 million kilos of fresh asparagus worth US $292 million up until October, i.e. 6.84% or 35.9 million kilos more than in 2013, according to statistics from Agrodata.
 
Peru exported 9.3 million kilos of fresh asparagus in January, 3.8 million kilos in February, 4.6 million kilos in March, 7.1 million kilos in April, and 8.7 million kilos in May.
 
In June the volume of exports amounted to 9.8 million kilos, in July to 12.6 million kilos, in August 12.7 million kilos, September 15.9 million kilos and October 15.5 million kilos.
 
The main market was the United States with 60% of the total fresh asparagus, worth $176 million dollars, followed by England with $33 million dollars (11%) and the Netherlands with $ 33 million (11%), among others.
 
The biggest selling exporting companies were Complejo Agroindustrial Beta with 18% of the total transactions worth $52 million, followed by Danper Trujillo with $19 million (7%), among others.
 
Canned asparagus
Canned asparagus exports up until October amounted to 32.7 million kilos and $110 million dollars, 8.91% or 35.9 million kilos less than in 2013, according to Agrodata.
 
Peru exported 2.6 million kilos of canned asparagus in January, 3.1 million kilos in February, 3.9 million kilos in March, 3.6 million kilos in April, and 3.5 million kilos in May.
 
In June Peru then exported 3.7 million kilos, in July 2.5 million kilos, in August 2.5 million kilos, in September 4.0 million and in October 3.2 kilos million kilos.
 
The main market was Spain with 34% of total exports worth $ 37.4 million, followed by France with $28.3 million (26%) and the US with 11.6 million (11%), among others.
 
21 companies exported canned asparagus and Camposol led sales, with 24% of the total transactions worth $26 million dollars.
