"For both companies, the shallot was a by-product. TOP Onions cultivated the shallots, and Wiskerke supplied these to supermarkets. However, we are convinced that we're not using the full market potential this way. More can be done with this beautiful product. For that reason, we established the joint venture," says Rien Murre.
Chayenne confirms this: "Demand for shallots increased from a single pallet to full containers. This created a need for further cooperation. Daily Shallot will deliver the full shallot range, consisting of banana shallots, semi-long shallots and round shallots, in all sizes."
Paula de Winter handles the Daily Shallot commerce. "The idea is that over time the company will evolve and in turn, shareholders won't interfere with the day to day business any more. Chayenne and I will gradually withdraw from Daily Shallot," says Rien. "By turning the shallots into a fully-fledged, daily business, we aim to realize a significant increase."
