This year hasn't been particularly good for gentile lettuce, as quotations were negative for a long period and could not cover production costs. Prices were only profitable in July, August, September and October.
The average price went from €0.85/kg in 2013 to the current €0.68/kg and there was an 8% drop in volumes sold.
Quantities increased in July, August, September and October thanks to the nicer weather and demand picked up. The season is not over yet, but there has been a drop in prices leading to economic loss for companies.
