While in Beijing FreshPlaza visited a few of the city's supermarkets. I started off in a lowend WUMART. It was not very appealing as you walked in but it did have good selection of fruit of vegetables on display, the quality was sometimes lacking but in general not too bad.

I moved on to Walmart, again at the lower end of the scale but higher than WUMART. Unfortunately I didn't get to take many photographs here, but the fruit was well displayed and the quality was in general, good.

Next on to a City Shop, situated in large shopping mall, the difference was clear from a distance. The fruit displays were great, with a lot produce in traditional tubs and baskets, they also seem to cater for the daily shopper or the single person with fruit and veg packed small quantities.

Then to Ole, again at the upper end of the scal and also in a large mdern shopping mall. Again the dispays were fantastic, with a selection of fresh cut fruit and veg. This was only supermarket where I saw any fruit available for tasting. Blueberries from Mexico. This a fairly new product on the Chinese market and still vey expensive, avocadoes were also expensive.
One thing that was constant in all of the supermarkets was Packaging, almost all the fruit and veg is packed either individually or in tows or fours. In the low end supermarkets the number of staff in the produce departement was staggering while in the other two there was no one at all.
