Peru: Blueberry shipments will amount to $40 million in 2014

According to Sierra Exportadora, Blueberry exports between January and September amounted to $11,990,784 million dollars, 230% more than in the same period of 2013.

However, considering that in the highest number of shipments take place in the months of September, October and November, the total exports could amount to $40 million dollars, more than 200% more than the $15.1 million dollars obtained last year.

The countries with the biggest demand for this fruit are the US, the UK, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, amongst other countries.

Sectoral impulse
To continue promoting the export of this fruit, the president of Sierra Exportadora, engineer Alfonso Velasquez Tuesta, announced that the Fourth International Berries Seminar and the First International Cherry Seminar would be held on November 25 and 26, respectively.

Velasquez Tuesta also stressed that the government had valued berries via Sierra Exportadora and boosted exports.

"Peru has become an option in the berries market and it can become a great producer worldwide. The government fostered productive inclusion through this institution allowing small producers in the country to enjoy the agricultural export boom," he stressed.

He added that the seminar aims at encouraging employers to market berries, and that buyers and representatives of large companies would participate in it.
