BayWa detaches from fruit trade

BayWa, Europe's largest wholesaler of agricultural products, is now selling their fruit through a subsidiary. With the newly established 'BayWa Obst GmbH & Co. KG' the fruit trade is being detached from the major agricultural group, BayWay shared this information last Tuesday in Munich. The group hopes that this will be an advantageous move by opening up new markets in other countries with special needs. All 170 employees from the seven locations on Lake Constance and along the Neckar river, who have thus far been working for the BayWa fruit branch, will be taken over by the BayWa subsidiary. BayWa wants to invest 20 million Euro in the subsidiary up until 2017.

BayWa sells mainly apples, and in their own words, is the largest fruit supplier in German trade. Last year the group sold 80,000 tons of apples worldwide from Germany. The company sees many opportunities for growth, especially in Asia.
