Kale is trendy in the United States

Consuming kale has become a real trend in the United States, reports the German website Proplanta.de. In large cities like New York it is now hip to drink kale in a smoothie. The health conscious trend setters have discovered kale and eat it raw with, for instance, apple and banana, blended into a glass. The tough, very solid, curled and quite bitter leaves are also served in salads in the US, eaten as crisps and processed into all other possible meals. Kale is revered as the most healthy food in the world at the moment in America.

According to the American statistics kale is grown on around 2,500 hectares in the United States. Most of the harvested kale ends up on the market as a fresh product.

Kale also contains a lot of important nutrients and vitamins, such as provitamin A, vitamin C and B2, the minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphor, as well as dietary fibre, antioxidants and various secondary plant compounds. The vegetable also has anti-inflammatory properties, is rumoured to prevent cancer and can help diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Kale helps purify the body and strengthen the lungs, blood circulation and immune system.
